Speedskating's Age Classification System

You might have noticed the three character designation below each of our skaters names like LN1 or MSA and wondered what this means? These are gender and age group classifications. (L) for ladies, (M) for men's then 4 main age group categories, juniors, neo-seniors, seniors, and masters. A skaters age group is based off of the age they are on July 1st of that competition year. Below we decode each one in the following format, "age-(code);" example: 13-(C1)

Juniors: 13=(C1); 14=(C2); 15=(B1); 16=(B2); 17=(A1); 18=(A2)

Neo-Seniors: 19=(N1); 20=(N2); 21=(N3); 22=(N4)

Seniors: ages 23-28=(SA)

Masters: ages 29-33=(30); ages 34-38=(35); ages 39-43=(40); ages 44-48=(45); ages 49-53=(50); ages 54-58=(55)

Examples:

MA1 = Male athlete age 17

LN4 = Female athlete age 22

LSA = Female athlete between the ages of 23-28
